You don’t have to be perfect

to be an escort.

There’s a common misconception that you need to have a stereotypical “pornstar/stripper” body to be a good escort. That’s not the case, and really it’s the beauty of escorting. You DON’T have to look or be airbrushed to be successful.

Are there clients that want nothing but supermodel material? Sure. Looks are helpful, I will not wax poetic about inner beauty taking precedence. Having a nice face and a nice body help attract customers. But clients that only want vapid supermodels are not the majority. The majority have a variety of interests and want anything and everything from students who speak no English to gorgeous BBWs to the “girl next door”.

So what DO you need to be a successful escort?

First and foremost you need charisma. You need to have (or at least portray) a great personality. You need to exude confidence and sexuality. You need to be as well spoken as possible because while you may not talk with your clients a great deal, you will have to write pages for your website about yourself and correspond intelligently with clients either via email or phone.

You need to be well groomed. Manicures and pedicures are a must, even if they’re polish free or a clear coat. You need to have nice hands and feet. Get your eyebrows threaded (or waxed – I personally prefer the look of threading to waxing), if you colour your hair have it professionally done every 4 weeks.

Make sure your legs and underarms are always clean shaven. As far as grooming down there goes, wax or shave. Use unscented roll on deoderant on your pubic area immediately after shaving and make yourself a batch of TendSkin to keep irritation down.

If you take same day and last minute appointments, do not wear perfume or lipstick. Opt for a fresh smelling antiperspirant and some chapstick instead. The reason for this is even if you shower, some of those “long lasting” cosmetics still linger.

If your teeth are a bit dingy, pick up some whitener. I like the 5 minute stuff you put in trays – the stuff I use is similar to this.

Make sure the clothes, shoes, purse, and coat you wear to outcalls is reserved and classy while still being sexy. You want to look like you belong in an upscale hotel. You’ll get less interference from suspicious hotel staff if you can blend.

It’s the little details that make or break it.

Lingerie, go get some. Get colours and styles that flatter your body type, and skin tone but most importantly: make you feel sexy. The sexier you feel, the more confidence you exude. If you have any flaws, pick lingerie that helps you cover them.

For example, if you have stretch marks on your stomach, don’t wear sheer lingerie. Buy stockings that suit your legs and heels that make them look fantastic.  Crotchless fishnets can help mask cellulite.  High heels make your legs look leaner.

Your website is extremely important. If you don’t know html/css/javascript/etc there are a lot of free escort design websites out there. They’re not bad for getting started, but eventually you’ll want a more unique site. My site is far from perfect, but it serves as a decent example. You want your website to have a bio, an FAQ, a donation page, how to book you, photos, a schedule, and links. It can (but does not have to be) flashy and ornate. Simple but elegant works very well too. As long as your site is error free, easy on the eyes (no hot pink backgrounds), easy to navigate, and interesting you will do fine.

Get some good photos shot. You can usually do this for free with a little patience. Make a ModelMayhem profile with the absolute best pictures you have of yourself. Mention in your profile you are looking for TFCD (Time for CD – aka you exchange time for getting your images free) lingerie and nude work. You should have at least a few photographers clamoring to shoot you within a week or two. You can ask them to blur or crop your face out of the photos if you aren’t sure how to. Most photographers are more than happy to help you post process. If you are asking the photographer to post process (above and beyond normal PPing – aka face blurring and cropping) you should really tip.

Advertising is the hardest, but one of the most important parts of making it in this business. You need to know where to advertise, you need to know how to advertise, and you’ve got to have some money to advertise. While lots make a decent living without paid advertising, it is an investment well worth your while.

There are a lot of free listing sites (PunterLink, OAD, Escort Supermodel, Escorts.com and several more – check my site’s index and links page to find some). Submit your site to all of them. You can also list your site on TheEroticReview*.

Paid advertising is a bit trickier. You need to know what sites get a lot of hits from your area. For example, you won’t pay to advertise on PERB (Pacific Escort Review Board) if you live on the East coast. Places like EROS and BigDoggie* do a lot of business all over (as they’re both pretty well known) and are affordable. Watch for specials as well – EROS was recently offering a 2 for 1 special (in certain areas) if you created a new account, some places offer cheaper rates if you buy several months up front or get a recurring membership. It’s an extremely worthwhile investment that pays for itself within your first couple of calls.

You can advertise on Craigslist, but it’s not something I recommend if you’re working in the US. There are a lot of sex stings going on and predatory men also like to lurk there. I highly recommend paying for advertising (if for no other purpose) to avoid CL.

Have patience. The phone may not ring the first day, or even the first week. Work on establishing a reputation via advertising and posting on local forums, people will get curious and book you. Do the best you can to make sure the customer is happy. If you don’t have a “no review” policy, you’ll get some notoriety through reviews. Take it one day a time and try not to stress.

*Do remember that if you list on these sites a lot of the men interested will likely be hobbyists. Some providers do not like to see hobbyists. I personally don’t mind them but if you do it would be best to advertise elsewhere.
